Boundary Peak is the Highest point in Nevada and is just 1/2 mile from the California state line. The best time to climb is between June and October and is a desolate, but beautiful climb.  So I headed out on the climb with my best friend Nicole, who has hiked 41 of the highest peaks in the US.  It was a world wind trip.  I flew into Nevada after nearly missing my connecting flight by the skin of my teeth, at midnight.  We hopped in our rental car and zoomed over to the nearest grocery store to pack up on some much needed supplies.  Our hiking staple of peanut butter and honey sandwiches, protein bars, some bananas and lots of water.  The temperature was going to be hot, even for the mountains.  We then drove 2 hours to our hotel out in the middle of no where, slept for a couple hours, packed up at first light and drove 2 more hours to the trail head, which provided us with some serious off roading.  After celebrating that we finally made it to the trail head and documenting our surroundings with several photos and of course some selfies, we headed out on what hoped to be a total of 8 hours round trip hiking the highest point in Nevada..

Hello Boundary Peak!

Walking along the long and desolate trail, that looks simple, but looks are deceiving.

Mt. Montgomery_desolate_2jpgThe weather was perfect that day, not too hot and a slight breeze in the air.  The closer we got to the summit the more rocks and skeet we encountered.  Our feet sunk in the soft rocks and almost sand like conditions, while we had to pull and place our feet in locations that rocks would not tumble beneath our feet.

4 hours later from starting off we made it to the Summit, 13,147 feet. The view was breathtaking and believe it or not I had CELL COVERAGE (yay verizon), so I called my husband and my parents to let them know we made it to the top and now our only challenge was to make it back down 🙂

Right behind us is Mt. Montgomery which is in California!

What an experience we had and what an accomplishment it was.  I was honored to have done this with Nicole and help her check off one of her High Points.  She means the world to me and the beauty of a climb with someone who is there to laugh, suck in dirt, get a little sunburned, and share peanut butter and honey sandwiches is something that can never be replaced!  Until our next adventure, peace out and thumbs up to landing at the top of Boundary Peak.
